Our Disappearing Planet are thrilled to have awarded our inaugural grant to the World Land Trust

The World Land Trust is an international conservation organisation dedicated to taking direct action to save rainforest and other habitats which are in jeopardy around the world.

We have awarded our grant to the World Land Trust in support of their urgent and ongoing purchase and protection of critally threatened areas of forest habitat in Borneo.

The parcels of pristine forest being purchased by the World Land Trust and their project partners in Malaysian Borneo are disappearing before our very eyes to make way for oil palm plantations.

So much of their forest habitat has been lost already that Orang-utans and other vulnerable wildlife including Pygmy Elephant, Malayan Sun Bear and Proboscis Monkey are running out of space in which to survive

The World Land Trust are working with local Bornean partner organisation LEAP Conservancy in an urgent bid to purchase and connect already protected forests to create larger, contiguous forest reserves to enable wildlife to roam freely forever.

Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre

Monkey World has founded 2 charities: The Jim Cronin Memorial Fund for Primate Conservation and Welfare - Reg Charity No 1126939.

This charity was set up by Monkey World following the death of Jim Cronin, the founder of Monkey World. Jim wanted Alison (his wife & co-owner of Monkey World) to continue with his work and build an education centre so that future generations would understand why they do what they do.

The funds from the Jim Cronin Memorial Fund are used for their rescue and rehabilitation work. EAST - The Endangered Asian Species Trust - Reg Charity No 1115350

This charity was also set up by Jim and Alison Cronin and supports their work in Vietnam.

They currently have a 67 hectare island at the entrance to the Cat Tien National Park, where they rescue, rehabilitate and release gibbons native to this area.

Dao Tien Island is staffed by Monkey World Staff and is progressing nicely although seriously lacking in funds.

They have successfully released 2 primates onto the island and are currently installing the new electric fence on one of the semi wild enclosures.

To enable them to continue with these releases they are in dire need of funds, each primate released needs a GPS/GSM radio tracking collar, these collars enable their keepers to track and closely monitor the primates once released.

The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International‏

Our Disappearing Planet is delighted to have awarded a grant to The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International‏ to help towards the on-going protection of gorillas by 25 trackers and 2 armed anti-poaching patrols (five-member teams) of the Karisoke Research Center.

The trackers and anti-poaching patrols are the lifeline for the gorillas.

After the poaching attacks in 2002 which resulted in the death of 9 mountain gorillas, the Karisoke Research Center began dawn-to-dusk protection for the groups we had at that time.

This protection continues today and trackers remain in close, but not always visual, proximity to the gorillas so they can deter poachers from attacking these habituated gorilla groups.

The Tropical Zoo

Our Disappearing Planet is delighted to have awarded a grant to The Tropical Zoo.

Many of the animals at The Tropical Zoo are endangered and it is especially important to let the many visiting children know about each animal, why they are threatened in the wild and what can be done to help, as the children of today are the adults of tommorrow that can help save the many endangered animals and their critically threatened habitat.

The William Holden Wildlife Foundation

Our Disappearing Planet is delighted to have awarded a grant to the William Holden Wildlife Foundation.

Although William Holden's illustrious acting career spanned over 40 years, and included nearly 80 films plus a coveted Oscar for STALAG 17, the role in which he took the most pride was as a conservationist and co-founder of the Mount Kenya Game Ranch.

His dedicated efforts to preserve the wildlife so precious to all of us soon expanded through the world, as he instilled in everyone he touched a reverence for nature's creatures.

In his memory, the William Holden Wildlife Foundation was founded to carry on his important efforts and to meet the ever-increasing demand for alternatives to extinction.

The foundation's education program currently serves over 10,000 students per year.

Overhead expenses in the United States are underwritten through the generosity of a single donor, ensuring that virtually 100% of your tax-deductible donation goes directly to our work.

We hope you will consider participating in our present and in our future.
